Chevrolet Cruze: BMW Not The Only One Taking Chances With Diesel

Chevrolet’s Nicholson said that they are working on a new model Chevrolet Cruze which will be based on diesel engine.

That means current Volkswagen diesel owners not put off by the carmaker’s deception won’t be able to buy a new VW TDI model when it comes time to replace their cars. “I think the U.S.is one of the few diesel growth markets on the planet”, he said.

Following Volkswagen’s recent problems with its diesel engines, the German manufacturer made a decision to cut back on their TDI powerplants and focus on greener technologies. “There are a lot of diesel intenders and diesel-loyal people who are looking for a brand and vehicles to go after”, explained Dan Nicholson, General Motors’ vice president for global propulsion systems, in an interview with trade journal Automotive News.

Following the revelation that it used illegal “defeat device” software to cheat on emissions tests, Volkswagen has essentially walked away from the USA diesel market.

Chevrolet is actually going after Volkswagen’s diesel customers in full swing, according to Automotive News. Frankly that’s what we’d like to do.

We can certainly see a huge decline in VW customers but the diesel interest is still there in many valued customers. “And we’ll go after those customers”, he said. The auto is expected to arrive in 2017 and feature a 1.6-liter diesel that is so quiet engineers call it “whisper diesel”.

This is a better Cruze than the old one, no doubt. Currently, GM sells diesel versions of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks, both of which are hitting the brand’s sales targets.

The new Cruze diesel is expected to make 136 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This information has been confirmed when Chevy announced the mileage for the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze.
