The 2016 Volt can go as far as 420 miles on a full electric charge and its gasoline-powered generator that takes over when the batteries are drained, GM said in a statement Tuesday.

The 2016 Volt hits dealerships in the Fall of this year.

The EPA fuel efficiency numbers are in for the 2016 Volt and the auto has a 106 MPGe rating.

EPA range estimates are just in for the 2016 Chevrolet Volt hybrid, and those interested in buying one are in for a pleasant surprise in terms of the range they’ll be getting from the PHEV.

The golden bowtie company also expects Volt owners will use power exclusively from the 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery for more than 90 percent of trips, but the 53-miles EPA estimated range looks decent already. The most important statistic is that the Volt is capable of driving on electricity alone for up to 53 miles, a generous 15-mile increase over the current model.

“We listened to our customers,” said Andrew Farah, vehicle chief engineer, “They were very clear when they told us that they wanted more range, and a fun driving experience behind the wheel”.

General Motors has yet to offer any details as to when the next generation Chevy Volt release date will be, and other such specifics like its range and performance. The transaxle of the 2015 model used only one big electric motor for both modes.

Of course, Chevrolet has not made any confirmation yet so we can’t say this is for real right now but if it is true, the Chevrolet Volt is going to become a popular model. An available $7,500 federal tax credit lowers the hybrid’s base price to $26,495, and California residents qualify for additional bonuses that bring the price down to $24,995.

The all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt achieves an impressive 53 miles of electric-only driving range thanks to its new larger battery
