Chhota Rajan deportation from Bali to India delayed by ash cloud
The deportation of an alleged Indian underworld don has been delayed by the closure of airports on Indonesia’s Bali island due to volcanic ash, police say.

Police Maj. Pande Sugiarta said Tuesday that preparations are underway for Nikalje’s deportation to India later in the day. Local authorities had closed the Ngurah Rai global Airport here late on Tuesday due to a large ash cloud drifting from Mount Rinjani, an active volcano on the nearby island.
Javed told mediapersons that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is the nodal agency for InterPol in India, is finalising the arrangements to bring back the mafia don who has been absconding from India for almost two decades. “The process of deportation in such cases can take one to two days”.
“Chhota Rajan will be brought to Mumbai”.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that security had been beefed up for Rajan’s arrival and he was likely to be kept in Anda Cell of Arthur road prison. He was arrested October 25 when he arrived at Bali’s airport from Sydney. He’s been on Interpol’s most wanted list since 1995, under suspicion of running a crime syndicate responsible for fun stuff like extortion, arms smuggling, and contract killing.
Rajan, whose real name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, was wanted in India for several years and was arrested following a tip off from Australian authorities.
The 55-year-old was arrested in Indonesia following a tip-off from Australian police, who confirmed in September the fugitive had been living there under another identity.

In 2000, there was an attempt on Rajan’s life when his arch rival and India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim’s men tracked him down to a hotel in Bangkok but he managed a dramatic escape.
