Chicago Bears waive quarterback Jimmy Clausen
The Chicago Bears elevated quarterback David Fales to the active roster from the practice squad, waived quarterback Jimmy Clausen and terminated the practice squad contract of cornerback Terrance Mitchell. The Bears seemingly didn’t want to keep three quarterbacks on the active roster.

As he did previous year after week 12 when the Bears moved him onto the 53-man roster, Fales had drawn interest from other National Football League teams, believed to include the Baltimore Ravens.
As the club’s No. 2 quarterback, Clausen played in two games in 2015 after starter Jay Cutler injured his hamstring in Week 2, completing 23 of 40 pass attempts for 184 yards and one interception. Clausen’s only start this season came in a 26-0 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Fales was drafted by the Bears in the sixth round (183rd overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft.
While the debate over their starting quarterback’s future with the team is likely to continue for the coming months, the Bears did make a statement about what they plan to do about the backup. He went 14/18 for 131 yards and two touchdown passes but was still beat out by the more experienced Clausen for the backup QB job.

Clausen made two starts and appeared in six games over the past two seasons for Chicago.
