Chicago Blackhawks Morning lINks

On Thursday night, New Jersey’s early-season turnaround reached another milestone.

The Hawks lost to New Jersey for the second time in a week on Thursday night, 3-2, despite holding them without a shot for at least a nine-minute stretch in each period. Including a goal in four straight games, Kane has 17 points (7g, 10a) during his current 10-game scoring streak – the longest point streak in the National Hockey League this season.

Kalinin scored on a rebound that put New Jersey ahead with 2:27 remaining in the third period.

A Brandon Mashinter turnover in the offensive zone late in the second period led to a Devils rush the other way. Henrique and Palmieri’s goals weren’t exactly eye-poppers, either. That period wasn’t exactly the best one for goaltender Corey Crawford.

The Hawks would keep pushing in the third period and eventually tie the game off an impressive shot on a tough angle by Artemi Panarin. The Russian rookie beat Cory Schneider off a pass from Erik Gustafsson to tie the game, 2-2, and seemingly tilt things back in Chicago’s favor.

New Jersey slogged its way through most of the game, focusing on limiting Hawks chances more than creating their own.

Sergey Kalinin picked up a goal and an assist in Thursday’s 3-2 win over the Blackhawks.

NOTES: Following the game Quenneville said he expects Blackhawks D Duncan Keith, a two-time Norris Trophy victor and MVP of last season’s playoffs, to return this weekend following his October 20 knee surgery (right meniscus). The Devils improve to 9-6-1.

The Blackhawks finally gave Patrick Kane a reliable duo of forwards to partner with this season and he’s rewarded them with point after point.

Kane beat Schneider with a high shot on the short side from the right circle for his 11th goal, completing a crisp passing sequence with Jonathan Toews and Teuvo Teravainen across the top of the crease. The under is 21-4-3 in their last 28 games versus Metropolitan opponents and 7-1-2 in their last 10 games following a win.

With Kane by his side, rookie Panarin has emerged, notching three of his five goals in the Blackhawks’ last two games. “We’re going to learn from tonight’s game and move forward”.

That’s what the Blackhawks are right now. But no matter who’s in the lineup, the Blackhawks have to start collecting points.

That hasn’t been much of a problem for Kane and his linemates lately. “I think you would worry a little bit more if you’re not getting those shifts”. The Hawks surely know this and will keep working to find answers.
