Chicago Bulls Draft 2015: Bulls Draft Bobby Portis – Da Windy City

The Chicago Bulls selected Arkansas forward Bobby Portis with the No. 22 pick in Thursday’s NBA draft.

“With me in high school I sat on the bench”, Portis said back at the combine.

Thing is, the Bulls are pretty stacked up front with Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson, Nikola Mirotic and Joakim Noah. I think he’s going to be a fit in our locker room.

In explaining his decision to return to college for his senior season previous year, Kaminsky – who was drafted with the ninth overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) – wrote in his blog that it was more exciting to play in front of Wisconsin fans than, say, the ones in Charlotte.

Portis joins a 50-win team that fought through injuries and lost to LeBron James and the banged up Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Portis: Better my core. He’s actually quoted as saying as much, telling Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, “I am insane”. “I think I bring a lot”. They hired Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg, hoping a change on the sideline would energize the team. Rose was inconsistent over 51 games, averaging 17.7 points, and had minor surgery on his right knee late in the season. Watch how Portis runs his man off the three-point line, switch his man, and then beat the defense down the floor for the easy dunk in transition. “We like to get out and play with pace and play with spacing”. I like that the Bulls took the best player available after players that made more sense from a fit standpoint were taken.

He played hard at both ends but really grew into his role on offense. “You could tell he worked on his back-to-the-basket game”. The 76ers then selected Duke’s Jahlil Okafor No. 3 and the Knicks tabbed highly regarded global player Kristaps Porzingis No. 4 as Phil Jackson said on the ESPN broadcast Porzingis wasn’t ready to produce in a big way yet, but he had substantial potential.

We’ve reached the age where players being selected in the NBA Draft are getting in trouble for things they tweeted in the past. And though it wasn’t what he was expecting when the Timberwolves went on the clock to begin the night, it ended with the Bulls unanimously selecting a player they feel has lottery-caliber potential.

Just like most who were tuned into the NBA Draft on Thursday night, the Chicago Bulls war room was flabbergasted when Arkansas forward Bobby Portis was still available when it was their turn on the clock. He does not have the most athleticism, and isn’t exactly explosive when he drives to the rim.
