Van Dyke, wearing a black hoodie, got hugs from supporters after his family posted the required amount of his bond. If convicted, he could serve the maximum sentence of five years in prison.

The larger issue that should be resolved, and by an agency independent of Chicago police and prosecutors, is how this investigation could go on so long – and have so many coincidental conspiracies attached – before Van Dyke was charged.

“I think that the fact that it took her 400 days to prosecute means whatever her charge, is she the one who ought to be doing the charge?”civil rights leader the Rev. Al Sharpton asked”. He’s concerned for his wife and his children. “We have encouraged it through our email”, Dean Angelo, FOP President told FOX 32’s Larry Yellen.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson said other officers involved in McDonald’s death should be fired or at least suspended.

A handful of them tried to block LaSalle Street and were arrested.

An online threat against the University of Chicago that led the school to cancel all activities Monday appears to have been motivated by the shooting of a black teenager by a Chicago officer in 2014, federal authorities said.

Before the video was released to the public, the story that was given by the Chicago police department made it seem that Van Dyke had only opened fire at McDonald after the teen lunged at him, which is clearly not evident from the video.

Herbert said Van Dyke is prepared to defend himself. “But there are certain things I know that quite frankly nobody else knows”. “I am not going to share that information”, Hebert told FOX 32 News Monday.

Herbert says Van Dyke is “very scared about the consequences he is facing”. Alvarez said Tuesday that a 3-inch knife with its blade folded into the handle was recovered from the scene.

But as we first reported last May, a Burger King district manager said police deleted the security footage after spending more than three hours in the restaurant.

McDonald swings into view on a four-lane street where police vehicles are stopped in the middle of the roadway.

The posting suggested the killings would be in retaliation for the fatal shooting of a black teenager by a white Chicago police officer.

The shooting occurred in October 2014, but dashcam video of the incident was recently released, sparking outrage and triggering protests.

Protesters marched through the city last week and into the weekend, but the protests have been largely peaceful.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said there appeared to have been technical difficulties. He is the first Chicago police officer in decades to be charged with first-degree murder.

On Monday night outside police headquarters, dozens of protesters gathered to prayer for justice. According to the dashcamera, McDonald, armed with a knife, was actually walking away from the police when he was gunned down. McDonald died after being taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital. McDonald was shot about 30 seconds later.
