Chicago Cubs Fans Celebrate Historic Victory at Wrigley Field

A bar in St. Louis named Rizzo’s was included among these victim bars, and the manager revealed that Cardinals fans who gathered there to watch the game had a sense of humor about this unexpected incident. They replied, “The Cubs are going to win today!”

“We deserve to celebrate this”, said first baseman Anthony Rizzo, whose go-ahead solo homer in the sixth inning gave Chicago the lead for good.

Chicago won the National League Division Series for the first time since 2003 with a 6-4 victory over St. Louis.

It wasn’t until the top of the sixth that the Cardinals drew level at 4-4 thanks to Tony Cruz and Brandon Moss’ back-to-back RBI hits. But the next three games saw a complete turnaround, as Chicago took advantage of every opportunity they could and took Game 2 at Busch and both games at Wrigley to wrap up the series.

The Cubs answered with four runs in the second inning, the first scoring when Chicago pitcher Jason Hammel singled in Starlin Castro from second base. They will continue in the playoffs Saturday, playing either the New York Mets or the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 7-game National League Championship Series.

“It’s kind of special to be able to beat a team of that magnitude”. The Cubs are looking to stay on a similar path behind Jason Hammel, who had a 5.65 ERA over his final nine regular-season starts.

As you might imagine he’s not alone amongst this jovial bunch of young Cubs that made history in two ways on Tuesday evening in front of an electric crowd at Wrigley Field. “I have been waiting my whole life for this”, Rogmiss said.

(BaseballStL) – Chicago blasted 10 home runs in three games to take the NLDS from the Cardinals. In fact, since they last won it all in 1908 the Cubs have only won one post season series and that was on the road. On the next pitch, Javier Baez lashed an opposite-field, three-run homer to the seats in right.

Jorge Soler was impressive, going 4 for 7 with two home runs, six walks and just one strikeout in his postseason debut at 23 years of age.

This was only the third time the Cubs have won consecutive postseason games at home. “There was considerable weakness in his thumb”, manager Mike Matheny said. Now tied at two, the victor of Game 5 will advance to the next round. No other Cubs player has hit more than even 13 dingers in that same span. Schwarber also put together three multi-homer games in that stretch, just one shy of the all-time record held by Jose Abreu and Bob Horner for a player’s first 69 games. And hundreds of fans remained standing behind the Cubs’ dugout, whooping and hollering at every player who passed by. “He’s been wonderful, not only about hitting but about different scenarios in the game”, Montero said.
