Chicago Cubs fans turn attention to World Series
The Cubs last won it all in 1908, which means they’ve been without a championship 40 years longer than the Indians, holders of the second-longest run without a championship in major North American pro sports. All those years of hunger and then only one big bite before a new quest begins for more? Final World Series rosters did not have to be submitted until Tuesday morning.

The Cubs are headed to the World Series for the first time in 71 years. Cleveland has known its share of sorrow, just a smaller share.
How long? Well, the last time the Cubs were in the World Series, a ticket in the upper grandstand was $6. “Whether I wanted to avoid it or not I heard it. Guys in the clubhouse, our media was certainly bringing it to us”. I hope it’s them’. Wrigley and its neighboring taverns were rocking on Saturday night after the Cubs claimed their first pennant since 1945. The series moves to Chicago on Friday for Games 3, 4, and, if necessary, 5.
The Chicago native on Sunday morning tweeted: “Way to go Cubs!”
“In the end we loved (Maddon) but thought taking over a veteran team in a big market, there would’ve been some risk involved because he’s so unique”, Epstein said. “We talk about it”. You feel pretty good about it, regardless of who is hitting. “We don’t take advantage of it, and that’s why it works”.
This year, Chicagoans held their collective breath as their beloved team won game after game. At the time it was called the Basketball Association of America, and became the NBA in 1949 after merging with the National Basketball League.
“I think that the first thing I saw is the Cubs hitters, they had a great game plan tonight”, Roberts said. Probably have never even attended a Cubs game, but that’s just going to be their team so they have something to talk about over the coffee machine and the cooler. But it also has cast a flattering light on the fidelity of fans in those towns and their defiant bond to “get through this together”, even if the travail is as preposterous as an 88-year wait between world titles for the Chicago White Sox (2005) or 86 years for the Boston Red Sox (2004).
The Chicago Cubs have opened as heavy favorites to beat the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.
You couldn’t have said that just seven years ago, when owner Tom Ricketts forked over $875 million of the family’s fortune to buy the ballclub and that faith was tested mightily. Tickets for the games in Cleveland are cheap by comparison, with an average of around $1,600. “These fans have more credibility (than other teams’) to say they’re the best fans in baseball”. But one other ingredient has been overlooked: good luck. “He could go to Tampa, which was a Petri dish at the time, try some things out, grow into it with young players and blossom”. “Guys staying healthy. Our pitchers have stayed healthy”.
Schwarber is coming back from major left knee surgery in April.
“Rightfully so. We are witnessing history right before our eyes”, he added. Hanging out at Wrigley, having a beer and knowing you’ll never get to the promised land. But they did, 1-0 in Game 6.
The Indians host the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night in the World Series opener.
The Cubs are ready to play. They’ve done their NLCS partying. There’s one more series and one more party to go. Then they can ponder what they’ve accomplished.

“Right now Game 5 in Chicago would be the second-most in-demand event we have ever seen, only topped by Mayweather-Pacquio”, said SeatGeek spokesperson Chris Leyden, whose site has tracked the secondary market since 2010.
