Stokes is now on probation for a 2011 armed robbery conviction. He has a prior conviction for aggravated unlawful use of weapon and was sentenced to two years of probation.

He also vowed that both gang factions involved in Tyshawn’s killing and the other retaliatory slayings and shootings had signed their own “death warrants”.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has said the boy was lured into the alley and killed because of his father’s gang ties.

McCarthy expressed confidence that the unnamed man in custody won’t be released anytime soon and that authorities will find Edwards, whom they’ve been hunting for weeks. “We’re definitely going to catch him”.
