Pastors and community residents have scheduled a prayer vigil at the site where a 55-year-old woman and 19-year-old man were shot and killed by Chicago police. According to police reports, the officers were confronted by an individual who was combative, and that resulted in one of the officers firing his weapon.
Cooksey, who was not present at the time of the shooting, told the Chicago Tribune that her son had been dealing with mental issues, but said police didn’t have to react the way they did.
Mr Legrier’s mother, Janet Cooksey, told the Chicago Tribune her son “didn’t have a gun”.
LeGrier described the officers as acting “recklessly” and “shooting blindly” into a doorway and that he felt that the officer who fired the fatal shots was aware that he had made a poor decision. It is not clear from the police statement if either Legrier or Jones were armed or if there are any video recordings of the incident.
“She wasn’t saying anything”, Jones said.
Police referred all questions to the Independent Police Review Authority, the agency that investigates possible police misconduct.
As families of both victims arrived to find out what happened, Cooksey went to the hospital and learned her son did not make it. Jones’ daughter woke up when she heard gunshots and discovered her mother on the floor with a bullet wound to the neck.
According to the Better Government Association, Chicago police shot 240 people in the 2010-2014 period, or about one per week. Bettie Jones, a first-floor tenant was also shot by accident. She then said that it has to stop. “I don’t believe it”, he said.
Family members of Jones said that Legrier, a sophomore at Northern Illinois University, was home for Christmas and visiting his father, landlord of the two-story wooden frame building where the shooting occurred.
Ms Lynch’s announcement came after weeks of protest which followed the release of video footage, showing the moment a police officer opened fire on 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, shooting him 16 times, in 2014. Jones said she had to keep checking for her mother’s pulse, but that her mother was breathing and still alive when she found her.
Chicago Police officers were also involved in another shooting on Saturday.
“Anytime an officer uses force the public deserves answers, and regardless of the circumstances we all grieve anytime there is a loss of life in our city”, Emanuel said in a statement.
Melvin Jones, the brother of the woman killed Saturday, told the Tribune his sister celebrated Christmas at her apartment Friday with about 15 other relatives. Her children range in age from 19 to 38.

“I spoke with the doctor and she told me that he had seven wounds and his heard had stopped beating before, and they were trying to revive him, but she said it was too many shots”. I don’t have time to feel. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. We all know how that will turn out.
