Chicago officer asked for Taser before teen shot
Emanuel, who has brushed aside calls for his resignation amid a federal investigation into the shooting, has said that the delay in releasing the video was standard procedure given a lawsuit was pending against the city. While he didn’t expressly side with protestors calling for Emanuel to resign, he said that “any official who helped suppress the videotape of Laquan McDonald’s murder should be held accountable”.

Emanuel’s political stock has tumbled after a racially divisive scandal that grew out of a fatal police shooting of a teenager in October 2014.
They are demanding Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s resignation for his handling of the case.
Organizers are hoping the Christmas Eve demonstration will be a repeat of another Michigan Avenue demonstration in which a few hundred people disrupted shopping there on Black Friday.
On Wednesday, protesters with Black Lives Matter blocked roads to the major airport in both Minneapolis and San Francisco, and they were dispersed by police after assembling inside the Minneapolis area’s Mall of America. As these details have come to light, coupled with the brutal facts of the video itself which show Laquan McDonald being shot 16 times without any kind of provocation or warning, they have galvanized the city against Emmanuel and the Chicago Police Department.
“Specifically, we will examine a number of issues related to the Chicago Police Department’s use of force, including its use of deadly force, racial, ethnic and other disparities in its use of force”, Lynch told the press. The group’s Black Christmas March protest began at 12 p.m. Thursday at MI and Wacker.
“The Magnificent Mile is like the Champs-Élysées of Chicago; its where all the high-end shops and hotels are and it’s where all the tourists go”, Perez said.
Van Dyke has been charged with first-degree murder in the 2014 shooting, which was captured on video.
Newly released audio recordings indicate that at least one Chicago officer asked radio dispatch for Taser support to subdue 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. “This guy is walking away, but he’s got a knife in hand”.
The officer’s request for a taser is echoed by a female dispatcher who repeatedly called for the closest cop to the scene equipped with a taser.

For more than a year, the department refused requests for the dashcam video to be released.
