Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says more than $45,000 worth of narcotics, including heroin and cocaine, was recovered, along with 26 illegal guns. Ninety-five of the 140 people are gang members, he said.

A 49-year-old woman, who news accounts said had just gotten coffee and stepped outside the Starbucks, was shot in the chest and killed.

The young man’s boss said his employee, who was shot in the hand and buttocks and was in stable condition Friday night, might have been a gang member years ago but had caused no problems at the sandwich shop.

The female victim was in her 40s, he said.

A friend of the city worker made an appeal on Facebook for the gunman to turn himself in, and said he was “thoroughly exhausted of all these people gang or not who shoot kill people who are hard workers and innocent”.

The shooting occurred just two blocks from the CPD headquarters, less than an hour after police held a press conference boasting about the arrest of almost 140 people in connection to drug and guns offenses. “She just happened to be exiting out of a Starbucks where she was struck by a gunshot”, Johnson said.
