Chicago police respond to Wade’s gun law remarks
In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that aired Friday morning, Wade said that Trump’s tweet left “a bad taste in [his] mouth”. He added that he was left with “a bad taste” in his mouth when Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump tweeted about the murder of his cousin last week.

“I was grateful that it started a conversation”, said Wade.
“A lot of the things I’ve seen wasn’t even her name”, Wade continued.
The outspoken US presidential candidate used the incident to reaffirm his belief that African-American citizens will vote for him.
Trump soon followed up the seemingly insensitive comment with a second tweet, offering his “condolences to Dwyane Wade and his family”.
Wade said it was particularly troubling to hear that the men who shot her were recently released from prison, and that elected officials should work to establish more work programs to keep people released from prison to turning to crime when they return home.
Nykea Aldridge will be laid to rest Saturday, one week after being shot and killed on Chicago’s South Side. Police say the mother of four was not the intended target of the shooting, and the baby in the stroller was not struck by the gunfire. Since his death, two brothers of 26 and 22, now in detention have been arrested and charged. This past August was Chicago’s deadliest month in 20 years with 90 homicides. “What are we doing to help police?'” We have weak gun laws and we have to do a better job of being leaders, all of us. That was her whole, that was the whole thing from her murder. “On the other hand it’s a national story”.
While Wade said doesn’t have all the answers on how to solve Chicago’s issues, he is willing to do what he can to help spark change.
Wade on Trump’s tweet: “I was kind of conflicted”. We don’t want another family or families down the line to keep going through the same hardships. “Big time”, Wade said. And we all have a responsibility, you know? And he wants the police “to do a lot better”, although he does admit the police will need help in order to do so.

For Wade, he doesn’t just want justice for his cousin, but for the country to have a heightened awareness of what’s going on in his city.
