Chicago police spokesman says 3 officers shot
Chicago police have been under increased scrutiny since a series of deadly police shootings, most notoriously the video-recorded shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald by Officer Jason Van Dyke, who is charged with first-degree murder. But one officer was shot in the back, one in the foot and one in the chest, possibly in his bullet-proof vest, the Tribune reported.

Three Chicago police officers were shot and wounded on the city’s west side Monday evening and an attacker reportedly was killed. Sources tell WBBM that the suspect was acting suspicious and opened fire on officers.
The officers approached a man and a woman in the courtyard, and the man took off.
Neither suspect was identified by authorities, who added a gun used by the dead suspect was recovered at the scene.
Emanuel could be seen talking with police outside the hospital where the officers were being treated.
“Tonight we were reminded of the dangers that our police face, and the bravery that they routinely display”, the statement said. She jokingly replied, “It’s too early to be bothering you”, and continued with “Good morning”, but it was after she asked one of the officers on the channel why he was on that specific channel, that the slurs followed.
“I want to thank Chicago Fire Department paramedics for their quick response in getting our officers here safely”, he said.

John Escalante has ordered an investigation into “absolutely unacceptable” racial slurs broadcast on a police frequency that was recorded and circulated online, a spokesman said. The officers involved will be put on standard administrative duties for 30 days.
