Chidambaram pitches for sending all-party delegation to J&K

Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning recent statements by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.

Shabbir Ahmad Shah said that Kashmir was not a part of India and that the Kashmiris demanding its settlement as per United Nations resolutions.

Modi emphasized the need for dialogue to find a “permanent and lasting solution” within the framework of the Constitution and also asked all political parties to work together to find a solution to the problems in the valley.

Protests have continued for the 45th straight day in the valley.

As many as 65 people, including two policemen, have been killed and several thousand were injured so far in different violence. The National Conference working president said the they handed over a memorandum to the Prime Minister warning him against the “tried and tested formulations of dealing with the issue in Kashmir administratively rather than politically”.

More than 60 people including women and children have been killed in one of the most serious uprising in the Indian held valley after a young Kashmir freedom fighter Burhan Wani was killed by Indian security forces last month.

The fresh killing came as Rajnath Singh reached Kashmir to review security and hold talks with civil society members as well as politicians of Jammu and Kashmir.

Noting that this vision is mentioned in the party’s Agenda of Alliance with BJP, she said her party has been able to inspire confidence among a majority of the people in all the regions of the state about its ability to solve the multiple problems faced by Jammu and Kashmir on political, economic, administrative and financial fronts.

It warned Indian Prime Minister to not interfere in Pakistan’s internal affairs.

There seemed no end in sight to the unrest even as the Home Minister arrived here to meet a cross-section of Kashmiri people and seek ways on how to break the logjam.

Sources in the Home Ministry said, the forces are being dispatched to trouble-torn areas in the state for maintaining law and order. “The situation in the state keeps changing by the hour for which there is no judicial remedy”, the court said.

“Our longstanding position has always been that India and Pakistan stand to benefit from a normalisation of relations and practical cooperation, and so we would be encouraged that India and Pakistan continue to engage in direct dialogue aimed at reducing tensions”, he said on Monday. “Do not make political statements here”.
