During a climate where officer involved shootings have been highly scrutinized, some community leaders say having all of the facts first is important.

Police tell The Cincinnati Enquirer the man was shot on Government Square around 7:40 a.m. Sunday. The officers had been pursuing Porter in connection with a robbery at the Vine Street Kroger. Police are interviewing that officer, as well as witnesses, Isaac said.

Isaac said Brucato fired six shots, hitting Porter multiple times. He says the city can’t yet release the video because it was subpoenaed by the prosecutor’s office for its review of the officer’s actions.

Porter had already fled when Bricado and another officer responded to the store. “We believe there is a knife involved we recovered a knife here at the scene”, Isaac said.

Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac said the investigation of the incident is still in its “very early stages”.

The mayor said he “looks forward” to the public being able to view video of the incident. “We want to make sure that we’re certain of what occurred, and we’re in the process of gathering that information”, Isaac said. Investigators are reasonably certain the suspect was the same person involved in the Kroger robbery, Isaac said.

The suspect was confronted by police at Fifth Street and Main Streets bus stops
