Chiefs getting healthy as injuries mount for Bills

The way things are going, that’s a bit hard to believe.

In a Sunday afternoon battle of AFC teams trying to keep alive hopes of a postseason berth, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills 30-22 at Arrowhead Stadium.

“You’re seeing guys that are getting healthy and you’re seeing guys that are back now playing with us”, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. The Chiefs will have an issue of their own on the right side of their offensive line, conceivably against one of the best defensive lines they’ll play against all season. The head-to-head tiebreaker over the Bills.

Williams’ day comes to an abrupt end after carrying the ball just two times for five yards. Travis Kelce also caught a touchdown pass. Cairo Santos hit three field goals.

The Bills (5-6) had a chance for a tying touchdown when they took over at their 10 with 3:25 left. The PAT kick allowed the Chiefs their first lead of the game, 21-16. The Bills got the ball back but Tyrod Taylor fumbled after he was hit and the Chiefs recovered the ball which lead to three more points for them and widening the lead for the Chiefs to 16 – 24 with less than 10 minutes left in the third quarter. He had several other great catches on the day, finishing with six for 158 yards and the two touchdowns. We got the game going the way we want it. That’s obviously a huge play in the game. On the third offensive play of the game, they combined on a 48-yard completion. “We’ve got to put them away”.

Both teams stressed the importance of Sunday’s game.

NOTES: The Chiefs suffered through a host of first half injuries, losing OLB Justin Houston (left knee), LG Jeff Allen (left ankle) and LT Eric Fisher (head/neck).

According to a former National Football League team doctor, PCL injuries typically don’t require surgery, taking one to four weeks to heal, and players are able to play wearing a brace.

DE Mario Williams is sidelined by a foot injury and DT Kyle Williams by a knee injury, depriving Buffalo of two of its best pass rushers.

The 40-year-old Hasselbeck threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns, and Adam Vinatieri – who’s 42 – made four more field goals. The drive was helped by a controversial 37-yard diving catch by Jeremy Maclin to give the Chiefs a first-and-goal at the three. And then he looked like the first-year starter that he is in the second half when he threw for just 55 yards.

“He’s steady Eddy, man. He’s got a good personality, so he’s not afraid to “zing” [any of his teammates]”, Reid said of Zombo.

The Chiefs answered by airing it out themselves.

In constant rain, Alex Smith and the Chiefs passing game was impressive.

But whether he’s out for a game or longer, in Zombo, the Chiefs have someone who’s done it before in a situation in which the pressure couldn’t be higher. “We came ready to play”.

Dan Carpenter – Carpenter really changed the game with his missed extra point that wasn’t even close. One of the reasons the Bills have struggled on defense is that they haven’t been as aggressive as Ryan defenses of the past have been, and that was plainly evident against Kansas City. After a third down pass to Charles Clay netted just a yard, Taylor scrambled to near the first down marker before being pushed out of bounds. Alex Smith has now thrown 283 passes without an interception.
