Chiefs hold off Browns 17-13 for 9th straight victory

Now 10-5 on the season, the Chiefs have played their way into the AFC playoffs, getting help when Baltimore upset Pittsburgh 20-17. The Chiefs can still win the AFC West with a victory in their finale against Oakland and a loss by Denver in one of their final two games.

Steelers playoff scenarios: How Pittsburgh can clinch today
And it’s still not going to be enough: They need help from the Bucs against the Bears and the 49ers against the Lions . The Chiefs more realistically can win the division by winning one more game than the Broncos over the next two games.

Imagine that when they were 1-5. “We have to play better, especially offensively, but we got the win”.

California Brush Fire Grows to 1200 Acres
Kaufman is urging everyone that is moving to higher ground to be sure and close all the windows and doors in their homes first. The fire is less than 10 percent contained and it will take at least three days to get it under control, fire officials said.

But with two opportunities late in the fourth quarter, Cleveland was unable to score.

Clippers beat Lakers in Kobe Bryant’s last Christmas game
He will consider promoting Russell and/or Randle again in January, at the conclusion of the Lakers’ seemingly monthlong road trek. That’s how I have confidence out there that I can play at a high level every night. “So that was encouraging”.

Kansas City had a chance to put the game away, but failed to pick up a first down, and Cleveland took over at its 30 with 1:52 left and no timeouts. The Browns picked up three first downs, and Manziel hit Darius Jennings on fourth-and-10 from the 32.

Manziel did not try to hide his emotions when the clock ran out, angrily slamming his helmet to the ground. “I think that’s the morale of the entire story of the game”.

Browns linebacker Barkevious Mingo on multiple occasions provided pass rush that would have led to at least one sack.

“I talked earlier this week about planting seeds and moving forward”, Browns coach Mike Pettine said.

The Cleveland Browns have been snake-bitten by the second half all season long. “But in some sense you just feel like you ran out of time”. Maclin caught a touchdown on the opening drive and set the tone for the first half, where the Chiefs built up a 14-point lead. Nine yards later, he had a first down that eventually led to a 40-yard field goal by Cairo Santos that gave the Chiefs a 10-0 lead.

The Browns got on the board midway through the second quarter, on a 45-yard field goal from Travis Coons. Cleveland had a chance for a 49-yard field goal on the final play of the first half, but Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen blocked the attempt and the Chiefs carried a 17-3 lead to the halftime locker room.

Then the Chiefs got stagnant.

Facing a first-and-10 from the Browns’ 13-yard line, Smith threaded the needle through the Cleveland secondary and found Kelce, a native of Cleveland Heights, at the goal line with the pass. Kelce dove to make the reception as he fell into the end zone for his fifth touchdown reception of the season.

The Browns came roaring out of the intermission, as Manziel directed the offense on a nine-play, 82-yard drive that started with his own bootleg run that gained 34 yards.

And after the Chiefs were forced to punt, the Browns continued to hog the football with a 21-play, 62-yard scoring drive that last 12 minutes and stretched into the fourth quarter. Williams has struggled since being thrust into the top corner spot with Joe Haden missing most of the year but he was not the sole reason the Browns defense struggled defensively in Kansas City today. But time expired before Manziel could get another snap off.

“Johnny is one of those quarterbacks you can never get comfortable with him, Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson said”. “For a defensive guy he’s a headache”. Cleveland lost kick returner Raheem Mostert (ankle) and WR Marlon Moore (concussion) in the first half.
