Charles is still expected to serve as Kansas City’s feature back, though the presence of Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West (elbow) could allow the Chiefs to ease up on the 29-year-old’s workload in comparison to the past few seasons.

Charles had been on the physically unable to perform list the first three weeks of camp.
He was at practice Tuesday. At that time, Charles left the field with a trainer and went to the locker room. That’s usually long enough for a player to return to action, although the Chiefs have said they’re going to be cautious with Charles and not have him participate in full-contact work.
With Charles coming back on August 16, he has three weeks to get into playing shape before the Chiefs host the San Diego Chargers in the regular-season opener at Arrowhead Stadium.

Charles did miss the preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, he may or may now play against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
