Chiefs Opponent Breakdown Week 1: Chargers
The Chiefs have the pleasure of welcoming into Arrowhead a divisional opponent in the San Diego Chargers.

“It was such a good run a year ago and we felt like we had so much more in the tank”, Chiefs center Mitch Morse said. Without him, the Chiefs will turn to Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware and Knile Davis. “I’m out here, I’m practicing, and I can’t be happier about where I’m at”, Charles said last week. “We are ready to prove ourselves this year and go all the way”. That’s partly because they don’t want to share it with the Chargers.
This first game of the season probably will not be as exciting as the close 10-3 win in 2015, but it will be fun to watch.
The Kansas City Chiefs remember not-so-fondly the way they started last season, dropping five of their first six games and spending the rest of the year digging out of the hole.
Charles will likely miss the season-opening game, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday. Running back Jamaal Charles, as well as outside linebackers Tamba Hali and Justin Houston were recovering from knee operations. Rivers threw for 403 yards against Detroit in Chargers opener last season.
The more plays the Chargers run, the more you can expose their flaws or get a penalty to stymie a drive. It’s tough to know whether or not San Diego was doing the same thing.
The Saints just extended the contract of quarterback Drew Brees which will continue to make them viable. “I believe in our defense, but I think it is going to take more than a field goal this time”. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has been practicing for weeks but did not participate in any preseason games as he works his way back to game speed. However, the stingy defense of Kansas City proved to be too much, forcing two goal-line incompletions in the final seconds of the game to seal the victory for the Chiefs.

ABOUT THE CHARGERS (2015: 4-12): Philip Rivers put up huge passing numbers last season, mostly out of necessity, as the Chargers ranked 31st in the league in rushing and found themselves playing from behind more often than not. If Te’o and Perryman fill the running lanes and tackle with force, the Chargers should be able to force the Chiefs into passing the football more than they would like.
