Chiefs safety Berry reporting to camp Sunday
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Chiefs holdout S Eric Berry will report to the team next week. Berry is yet to sign the franchise tender, but that is apparently going to change soon. Berry will have to wait until after the season to cash in, whether with the Chiefs or elsewhere. Berry, 27, is coming off one of the more incredible seasons we have ever seen.

The Pro Bowl safety has been staying away from the team after the sides couldn’t agree on a long-term contract extension last month.
This is tremendous news for Kansas City, which is undeniably better on defense with Berry roaming the back end than it is without him. He has been replaced by both Daniel Sorensen and Eric Murray.

Berry’s work ethic was evident after missing 10 games in 2014 due to his diagnosis, starting 15 games and helping lead the Chiefs to their first playoff victory since 1993. Should he report on Monday, he would only have a couple practices before the final tune-up against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs travel to face the Chicago Bears on Saturday for their third preseason game, which is usually a dress rehearsal for the starters, but Berry clearly will not play in the game. Considering how much Philip Rivers loves to throw deep, that’s a huge lift for the Chiefs. He tallied 58 tackles and two interceptions and was voted into the Pro Bowl – an achievement that wowed even his doctor, Christopher Flowers.
