Chiefs safety Eric Berry back at practice after cancer fight
“But like I said, he’s got to go through all the formalities here”. “I couldn’t push myself like I wanted to”.

Let’s discuss, let’s look at, let’s bring to the forefront a little more a story in the NFL that’s glaringly positive amidst all this nonsensical talk of deflated footballs, trips to appeals courts and smashed cell phones. One of my goals used to be to do five pushups a day.
Following the Chiefs’ announcement of Eric Berry’s return on Twitter, even opposing teams in the AFC West responded with joy over Berry’s clean bill of health.
Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry passed a physical on the first day of training camp in St. Joseph and that’s big news.
Berry was expected to speak to reporters later Wednesday.
“It’s been a roller coaster”, he said, “but I wouldn’t change it for the world”. Beyond that, Berry and the team have been reluctant to reveal details of his treatment.
“Everybody wants you to be strong”, Berry said, “but you can’t be strong every day”. “Sometimes I couldn’t do them”. It was no longer about us or about anyone else.
“It’s really important no matter what your age for folks to know that cancer can happen be diagnosed to anyone”, said Michael Holtz, a cancer survivor.
“Just because it’s a cloudy day does not mean the sun is not shining”, Berry said. The Chiefs opened a three-day minicamp for quarterbacks, rookies and players coming off illness or injury, with full-squad training camp beginning Saturday.
Kansas City Chiefs starting nose tackle Dontari Poe will miss all of training camp and maybe some regular season games.
“He looked pretty good out here with the work that he had”, Reid said.
Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease last December, shortly after complaining of pain in his chest following a game against Oakland.
According to Dr. Christopher Flowers, who directs the lymphoma program at Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute, Berry was scheduled to undergo “standard chemotherapy approaches”. There were some tough days for him, this wasnt a breeze, but thats what motivated him..
He also drew inspiration from Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts and the late ESPN great Stuart Scott.
The Kansas City Star update says physicians then examined the mass on the right side of his chest and concluded Berry has lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. He worked out with teammates like tight end Travis Kelce, among others.
He sailed through every test we gave him, Burkholder said with a grin. “Our doctors were pleasantly surprised by his numbers”.

Chiefs Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry was cleared to return to football, having been battling cancer since November. Thats his attitude, Reid said, and thats what drove him through this. “I have great confidence in the doctors and the plan they are going to put in place for me to win this fight”.
