In a report released today on vector-borne disease cases at AIIMS, the premier institute said, “Nine dengue patients have died from September 1 till date”. “Most of the victims were elderly associated co-morbid disease conditions and complications like chronic kidney disease, coronary artery disease, which affect the course of recovery”. “He was admitted yesterday in the ICU and his chikungunya RT-PCR test had come positive”, hospital authorities said. “He died of multi-organ failure triggered by complications from the disease”, they said. Inquiry ordered”, Delhi Health Minister, Satyendar Jain, tweeted.
At Lok Nayak Hospital near Delhi Gate, which sees a high number of patients from around the capital, the doctors from other departments have been shifted to the fever ward to manage the rush.
The Health Minister also ordered municipal corporations to inspect all construction sites for breeding of mosquitoes within two days. The government has arranged an additional 1000 beds for fever patients and 262 fever clinics have been set up. Both died on Tuesday. The AAP government has opened 100 such clinics and plans to expand the number to a 1000 by the end of the year.
Four persons have succumbed to the vector-borne disease at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Pandey, who was referred to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital from a Ghaziabad hospital, had died in the hospital at 4 AM after suffering chikungunya with sepsis. All these succumbed due to chikungunya complication.
“We are ready to treat all the patients. She was admitted to the hospital on August 26”. Over 770 cases were reported till September 3 this season.
“The five deaths from dengue took place between September 1-13”, a top AIIMS official told PTI.
Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday appealed to the people to rise above considerations of politics and fight chikungunya and dengue diseases unitedly. He urged people to rely on the symptomatic treatment for chikungunya and consume lots of liquids as the disease is generally non-fatal. “Please don’t get frustrated and answer them in a democratic manner rather than calling them dalal or agent”, Patra said.
“Ashok Chauhan, 62, from Aligarh also died of chikungunya on Monday”.
He said the Ministry has also put a cap on rates charged by various testing facilities for the diseases while all technical support has been provided to the states to deal with the situation.

This Jain said was creating avoidable pressure on medical institutions managed by the Delhi Government, and therefore there was an urgent need to review state-wise actions required to augment healthcare facilities for effective tackling of the issue.
