Chikungunya relief! Delhi government sets up helpline for chikungunya, dengue patients
“Delhi being hit worst, the number of tourists visiting Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and other locations in the western state is coming down drastically with the state government itself cautioning tourists against the disease”, cautioned Rawat. “There was a need to carry out fogging in the whole of Delhi”. However, only 40 per cent of these were under the Delhi government and hospitals run by it were “not refusing to admit patients”.

Municipal Corporation data said the number of dengue, chikungunya and malaria infections stands at 1,158, 1,057 and 21 respectively.
Medical Science says that nobody categorically dies of chikungunya, but if the patient is suffering from some other health issue, it may get severe, leading to death.
Chikungunya has claimed at least 10 lives in the national capital and the number of cases have also crossed 1,000.Nadda asked people not to panic and undergo symptomatic treatment. “I appeal to all to rise above political considerations and fight the menace unitedly”, said Jung after the meeting. Though chikungunya cannot kill someone it can trigger the problems of an old chronic disease.
“We used IgM serology on patients earlier but then afterfinding discrepancy between clinical diagnosis and laboratorytests, we started performing molecular test (RT-PCR) to detectthe chikungunya virus from the blood of clinically suspectedpatients from September 1 onwards”, the doctor said.”And from Sep 1-13, out of 565 samples of suspected viralfever, 319 came positive for chikungunya virus which is about56 per cent positivity”.
Dr. D.S. Rana, the chairperson of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said, “Have just received an e-mail from the Government of India that deaths reported in the Ganga Ram Hospital of chikungunya positive patients should be probed a little more and information should be given to them”.
Satyendra Jain and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung held separate meetings to review the situation.
There was only one person for every five lakh population, who sprayed pesticides on a bicycle. “They rush to Delhi hospitals apparently due to lack of proper healthcare facilities in their states”, the minister said.
There have been 160 confirmed cases of chikungunya and 60 of dengue since August. West Bengal is followed by Odisha and Kerala, both recording nine deaths each.
Six of the 11 victims belonged to Uttar Pradesh, including two from Ghaziabad, and four to Delhi.
Over 770 cases were reported till September 3 this season.
