The investigation began after Plumas County investigators arrived at the apartment where Huntsman and Curiel were living in Quincy and found a girl there who was severely abused and in need of medical attention. The child’s condition was not immediately available.

Tami Joy Huntsman, 39, and Gonzalo Curiel, 17, both of Quincy, were arrested by the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Redding Police Department.

The children were siblings, aged 3 and 5.

Another official in the district attorney’s office, Berkley Brannon, told the Monterey County Weekly the bodies were those discovered in the storage unit in Redding.

NBC station KSBW of Salinas reported that the injured child is a young girl, describing her as “fighting for her life”.

“This has shaken my staff to the core”, Hagwood said.

On Monday, investigators combed a Salinas home connected to Huntsman and Curiel. They were discovered after a child welfare check led police to an apartment complex on Fremont Street in East Salinas.

The third child is undergoing surgery at a hospital in Sacramento, Brindley said. It’s unclear what or who first summoned them to the apartment. It was unclear if those children were related to Huntsman. Bail is set at on million dollars.
