Children’s Museum offers events on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Friends of Lincoln School Inc. will host its annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday celebration January 15 and 16. The MLK Day of Service provides each of us with an opportunity to join neighbors and local leaders to tackle community challenges and strengthen our communities.

The city of Marion will be hosting its 30th annual Martin Luther King Day celebration on Monday.

The Sixth Annual MLK Day of Service volunteer event will be held January 16 from 9:30 a.m. -2:15 p.m.at Fenner Nature Center at 2020 E. Mt. Hope Ave.in Lansing.

As Dr. King once said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter”, said Mayor Ethan Strimling.

The guest speaker is Dr. Calvin N. Baltimore Sr., associate minister from the Peoples Community Baptist Church, Silver Spring, Md. “It’s just a way of giving back, and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy and his dream”, she says.

An Opening Governmental Prayer Service is being held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at First Presbyterian Church at 217 N. Park Ave. “We encourage people to participate in the events, to come together and talk about how all of us benefit from working together”.

The program is free and open to the public. The celebration will include music, songs, dance, and a keynote address by Pastor Dr. Bernadette Glover, the Pastor of St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Montclair.
