New British Prime Minister Theresa May spent much of the summit discussing Britain’s European Union exit, which will force the country to define anew its trading relationships with Europe, the USA and other partners.
A U.S. official said “differences remain” despite two rounds of talks between Secretary of State John Kerry and his counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the summit.
“I believe that these media are highly unprofessional as they fabricated news and added wild guesses to it without getting to the bottom of this issue”.
Kerry and Lavrov sat in on the meeting and are making plans to meet again in coming days under instructions to reach an agreement, according to the official.
Speaking at a press conference without taking questions, Mr Xi said the two-day summit – the first hosted by China – would be remembered for turning the G-20 from a crisis-response forum into a long-term global economic governance body.
Global leaders ended a major economic summit in eastern China on Monday with a forceful endorsement of free trade.
“However, all the large-scale global conferences and multilateral activities have routine practices and corresponding procedures to follow”.
“Xi told the gathering of world leaders from the nation’s 20 largest economies that their countries need to enhance mutual understanding in order to face a crucial juncture for the world economy”.
Obama said he has instructed his aides to determine whether it would still be productive to hold the face-to-face meeting with Duterte. The president used an alternative exit, but quarrels with Chinese officials broke out on the tarmac and at other venues over access by USA officials and the traveling press.
China has previously warned against Seoul’s decision to base the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defence, or THAAD, system south of the South Korean capital, Seoul.
In his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Obama raised disputes over cyberwarfare, maritime aggression and human rights.
