The solution is “predictable, science-based and stable”, ensuring access for Canadian shipments to China, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in Ottawa at a joint press conference with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

While there are undoubtedly some persons residing in Canada who are legitimately sought by the Chinese government for illegal actions, it is also the case that prosecutions by the Chinese government are often used to settle political scores rather than to enforce the law.
The premier said his visiting so quickly after Trudeau’s trip to China last month was an example of how rapidly relations are progressing between the two countries.
“Not only is China already the world’s largest consumer of meat products, demand for beef is projected to maintain an upward trend as Chinese consumers increase the presence of high quality beef in their diets”, said Canadian Meat Council President Joe Reda.
The Federal Government’s plan to negotiate a formal extradition treaty with the “People’s Republic” of China flies in the face of Canada’s tradition of respecting the rights of all persons within our borders and can not possibly comply with the Canadian Constitution, including the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, unless it contains so many exceptions and caveats as to render it effectively toothless. Canada and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding on trade in canola.
Fifteen years later, in Shanghai for the Chinese release of his father’s book, Two Innocents in Red China, Trudeau was gripped anew by a fascination with the country. “We have agreed to establish a high-level financial dialogue mechanism”, Li said.
He added that what’s more important is to manage their differences, knowing that their common interests far outweigh differences, Li said.
The Chinese leader expressed the willingness of his nation to import frozen beef, while Trudeau commented on the agreement reached by the two parties on exports of canola from the northern territory to the Asian giant. “We know that there is a huge amount of untapped potential in our commercial relationship”, Trudeau said.
He told reporters: “These back-to-back visits in less than a month shows that China-Canada relations are moving to a new stage”. Trudeau said he and Premier Li agreed on Thursday to try to double that number by 2025. But many Canadians remain suspicious of free trade and of China.
Mr Li also met Canadian Governor-General David Johnston at Rideau Hall, the governor-general’s official residence, on Thursday.

Chretien said the two sides should strengthen cooperation in nuclear energy, infrastructure construction, clean energy, finance and other fields.
