China cautions Japan against any response in disputed waters

Asked if he will bring up the favorable ruling of the United Nations arbitral court in July voiding China’s claim to nearly all of the South China Sea, he replied: “I don’t know what my friends will bring up as a subject matter”. The dispute is complex, involving conflicting claims from the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei.
In July, an arbitration court in the Hague ruled that China had no historic title over the busy waterway and had breached the Philippines’ sovereign rights with various actions there, infuriating Beijing, which dismissed the case.
