The team finished with a time of 6:03.98 at the Lagoa to claim GB’s first ever Olympic medal in the event, although a photo finish was called upon to determine their place on the podium.

Mounting frustration over Team China’s fortunes in Rio was captured in a tweet posted on Xinhua’s official Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

“I always knew I could medal at these Olympic Games my performance have been on the up since 2013 and 2014″.

The young Chinese gymnasts paid for their unconsistency.

“I had luck on my side and I was in that final and that was when I could really let loose, there was no pressure, no nerves it was just me on the diving board and that is it”.

Laura Trott became the first female athlete representing Britain to win a fourth Olympic gold medal after wrapping up women’s omnium title.

In eight Summer Games, they have only been out of the top four once – in 1988, when they were down in 11th after winning five gold medals.

“Since China’s gold opportunities are concentrated in the first half, it will be hard for China to win more than 25 golds at this year’s Olympics, the lowest of the last five Olympics”, the China News Service said on Sunday.

Boxer Josh Buatsi’s defeat in his light-heavyweight semi-final officially earned him a bronze medal, Britain’s 48th of the Games.

Olympic gold medal victor Wladimir Klitschko sold his boxing gold medal from the 1996 Olympics for $1m in 2012 and donated the proceeds to a charity he set up in Ukraine to help impoverished children. Matthijs Buchli from the Netherland took home the silver.

Before heading off to Rio de Janeiro, Manuel spoke with Sports Illustrated Kids at the U.S. Olympic Swim Team training camp in San Antonio, Texas.

“I think we each feel an enormous responsibility to get things started off right”, USA swimmer Nathan Adrian said. Great Britain has added a few gold medals over the past two days and another one early on Monday.

“Coming out of that, I started swimming again and really just put all my trust in God and knowing that he’s going to take care of everything for me, good or bad”, Dressel said. “My brain is empty”.
