Sources have revealed that inner circles amongst China’s politically powerful are fretting over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day remarks on Balochistan. “I am just wondering whether military involvement could be one of the choice but in my personal view, it is very unlikely”, he said in response to a question on the nature of China’s involvement and maintained that the views are his personal made in the interest of India-China relations.
“We are protesting outside the Chinese embassy against the CPEC.
Nawaz said it is the latest in the history of cooperation in all areas of bilateral and global importance.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reference to Balochistan has become a major concern for China and its scholars, including Hu Shisheng, the Director of the Institute of South and Southeast Asian and Oceanian Studies at the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations.
The Prime Minister said the two sides never left each other in times of distress and recalled Chinese assistance to Pakistan following the devastating quake in 2005 and floods in 2010. This corridor passes through PoK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Addressing the inaugural session of CPEC Summit at Pak-China Friendship Centre here on Monday, the prime minister said by working together we can bring peace and stability in the region through economic development for our people. “My concern is that if India become more hawkish, hostile, it could only create more troubles for Pakistan”, he said. If CPEC is completed not only China and Pakistan but also Afghanistan, India and Iran can benefit a lot. “It is a concern for China”. Asked about India’s concerns over terrorism emanating from Pakistan, Hu said Islamabad should address India’s concerns for its own development.
However, China’s principal concern lies not providing a stable political environment for Pakistani people but protecting it’s $46 billion investment in the region.
On India’s stand on the South China Sea, Hu added.”In the past, India’s stand on the South China Sea was impartial”.
Now, China has reached out to Pakistan when it stands economically isolated, Nawaz Sharif recalled the statement of President Xi.
“Our problem is with the US”.
The Foreign Ministry also told India today that China “appreciates Pakistan’s work and takes confidence for the future of the corridor” adding that China “would like to join with Pakistan to promote building the corridor advance continuously, so as to spread the benefit of the corridor among the peoples”.

The open warning that China will get involved, is serious and as experts pointed out here, New Delhi will have to factor this in as it moves on both Balochistan and the South China Sea issues.
