“American has worked with outside cyber security experts who checked digital signatures, IP addresses and the style of attack, and there’s no evidence to suggest a breach similar to that experienced by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management”, said Casey Norton an American Airlines spokesperson in the email.

China-linked hackers attacked the computer systems of travel reservations distributor Sabre Corp and American Airlines Group Inc, Bloomberg reported, although the world’s largest airline said there was no evidence of such a breach.

The attack on The US Office of Personnel Management laid bare 21.5million Social Security numbers and background checks containing sensitive information in June 2014.

A large-scale hack attack recently hit the U.S.travel industry.

The developments were first reported by Bloomberg.

This past February, hackers were able to obtain personal data of 80 million membes and employees of Anthem, the county’s second-largest health insurer. Unsurprisingly, the IP addresses matched activity found in the American’s system logs.

“We’re working intently with our companions to additional examine”, Norton stated, including that the corporate takes cyber threats significantly and goes “above and past any notification necessities”.

This latest attack has some American Airlines customers anxious that their personal information and credit card data may be in jeopardy.

The breach of Sabre’s network has the potential to have far-reaching consequences. “These state actors, their job is to gather intelligence on other nations”.

Zhu Haiquan, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington, told Bloomberg any accusation of his country’s involvement in hacking was “unfounded” and “counterproductive”.

“Anytime you have a close partner that you work with who acknowledges a security incident, you redouble your efforts and go back”, Norton said.
