The United States will also urge the G20 group to pay more attention to angry and anxious citizens who feel left behind by the global economic recovery, Lew said in a preview of America’s message to the Sept 4-5 summit in Hangzhou, China.
US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, who is accompanying the president on the trip, said Wednesday that Mr Obama would call for broader fiscal stimulus from other economies and will press Beijing to limit steel capacity.
Many G20 members are facing domestic political pressure from populist-protectionist parties, such as Australia’s One Nation, to limit foreign investment and wind back free trade deals.
Eight years ago when the first G20 summit was held in Washington, global governance was an unfamiliar term to most Chinese.
In an effort to reduce congestion, the local officials have declared a week-long public holiday coinciding with the G20 Summit and are reportedly trying to convince thousands of residents to leave the city by giving them discounted tour packages.
The G20 countries account for 85 percent of the world economy and 75 percent of world trade, and accommodate two-thirds of the world’s population.
Isaac Osei, the Parliamentary Minority spokesman on foreign affairs, said supporting infrastructure development in developing and least developed countries (LCDs) as well as rethinking the way worldwide development financing is governed are key to achieving this goal.
China represents just over 20 percent of global emissions while the United States accounting for 17.9 percent, Russian Federation 7.5 percent and India 4.1 percent. The U.S. has criticized China over cyberhacking and human rights and voiced increased exasperation with Beijing’s growing assertiveness in key waterways in the region.
President Xi Jinping ensures that this will not happen as it will be a basis to judge how effective China was to host the G20 Summit.
The agreement reached previous year will go into effect if ratified by at least 55 countries representing 55 percent of the world’s man-made emissions.
The G20, he said, had proved its worth in the wake of that referendum with its co-ordinated response helping to calm financial markets.
Merkel said in her weekly video message Saturday that she expects “a very lively discussion” at the summit in China, but that the meeting can’t, for example, resolve Syria’s civil war – “it can only be a contribution to talks on the sidelines helping in this”.
He also hoped that more foreign investment would flow into industries and infrastructure in Africa, thus helping lift African people out of poverty.
Though slowing, China’s GDP growth was 6.7 percent in the second quarter of this year, within the government’s target range of 6.5 percent to 7 percent for 2016, and was accompanied with progress in structural economic improvements.

Another watchpoint is what new ideas for economic development the Hangzhou summit might provide.
