China’s top phone maker Xiaomi unveils new Mi 5

The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with 16MP rear camera with 4-axis optical image stabilization (OIS) feature, which is more effective at compensating for handshake in a variety of shooting scenarios.

The Xiaomi Mi 4S is not a flagship by the company, but it still is no average device. The RMB 2699 (about $413 USD) tier is the PRO model, with a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and the 3D ceramic back.

As for the processor, the Mi 4s is engineered with a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 that is coupled with an Adreno 418 GPU and a 3 GB of RAM. Other features include a 16-megapixel camera, a home button with a fingerprint sensor, and a 3,000mAh battery.

In the past the Xiaomi Mi Series has always been compared to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone range, and this is also the case here.

Availability in South Africa remains a mystery, but in China at least, the phone’s available to preorder now, shipping 1 March.

Founded in 2010, Xiaomi led China in smartphone sales in 2015, shipping 64.9 million smartphones, or about 15 percent of the market, according to research firm IDC.

It’s not easy to make a great quality phone with high-end specs and sell it at a low price.
