China: Samsung Battery Problem Expands Reportedly Catch Fire

Of the 2.5 million Note 7 sold worldwide since its launch on August 19, around 400,000 were sold in South Korea and one million in the US. A few days later, it urged them to immediately turn off the phones.

This is obviously very troubling.

16/09/2016: USA regulators have formally ordered Samsung to recall one million of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, as more reports of the device’s exploding battery come in.

Pre-orders of the Galaxy Note 7 will also be delayed as Samsung works with its partners to supply a safe replacement smartphone as soon as possible.

Samsung said in a statement issued late on Monday that its research and quality inspection departments had concluded, after analyzing one of the Galaxy Note 7 phones that reportedly had exploded, that the damage to the phone was caused by “external heating”.

The incidents could set back Samsung’s effort to stage a comeback in China, where it has slipped to No. 6 in a crowded market behind ambitious local brands, Peng said. It also affects the Samsung smartphone sales all over the world. Within three weeks of the phone hitting the market, three airlines-Qantas, Jetstar, and Virgin Australia-banned it from use in-flight. The company said that the Note 7 devices with no defect in the batteries would be made available no later than Wednesday. It was established in Suwon, South Korea in the year 1969 and now, it also explores the consumer electronics industry by producing computers and tablets which established a good brand name to the customers.

Based on a thorough inspection, Samsung is fully confident that the battery issue has been completely resolved in the replacement Note 7 devices that will be available to customers in United Kingdom and Ireland from this week.

“It’s especially hard when you’re talking about a flagship product and early on in the launch”, said Gartner analyst Tuong Nguyen.

The company said those phones were distributed before 1 September to give consumers hands-on experience. The company said the two units involved in the reports of fires were not from that batch.

The move follows the South Korean firm’s decision earlier this month to halt all shipments of the device, and recall shipped handsets, after an investigation showed that a number of exploding devices were the result of a defective battery cell.
