China signs $17 billion deal to buy 130 Airbus aircraft

After meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing on Thursday, Merkel said the two governments had begun talks on transferring the pair of pandas.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed concern yesterday about a territorial dispute between the Chinese and U.S. navies in the South China Sea, and suggested China go to worldwide courts to resolve the row.

According to Bloomberg, Airbus Group (OTCMKTS:EADSY) reported a $17 billion deal with China, that involves 130 jets.

Several EU firms have complained that Beijing poses certain restrictions to European business leaders operating in a few of the sectors in China, when there are no such restrictions posed on the Chinese working in Europe. Bilateral trade between the two countries stood at 154 billion euros ($168 billion) in 2014, making the latter China’s largest trading partner in the European Union.

President Xi Jinping visited Britain last week and secured a flurry of deals including the construction of a new nuclear power station. Shi said that China and Germany as G20 members would further strengthen coordination in macroeconomic policy within the G20 framework, and work together to construct and maintain an open world economy as well as promote the establishment of a more equitable global economic governance system.

Li called on the two countries to cooperate more in innovative development and modern urbanization as China encourages entrepreneurship to promote growth.

This year has been designated the Year of China-Germany Innovation Cooperation.

Airbus has design and manufacturing facilities in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Spain, and subsidiaries in the USA, China, India, Japan and in the Middle East.

Premier Li and Chancellor Merkel both highlighted the need for a political solution to the conflict in Syria during their discussions. Voters are becoming less supportive of her accommodating stance and Merkel, a former favorite of the German electorate, has seen her popularity rating fall to a four-year low.
