The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed Friday that Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi would be suspended from competition at the Rio Olympics after failing a doping test.

It said the 18-year-old tested positive for hydrochloro-thiazide, a diuretic, on the August 7 test. China’s biggest doping scandal came to light in 1994 during the Asian Games in Hiroshima, where seven Chinese athletes failed their drug tests.
On that day, the 18-year-old took part in the women’s 100m butterfly final, finishing fourth.
Chen has applied to the International Olympic Committee for her B sample to be tested and for a hearing, it added.
In the statement, the Chinese association says it has demanded full cooperation from Chen in the investigation.
Efimova was only allowed to compete at the Games after winning an appeal against a ban for a previous doping offence. Horton called Sun a “drug cheat” after beating him in the 400 freestyle. It is not yet clear whether the revelation will have any bearing on her eligibility to participate in Friday’s preliminary heats for the 50-meter freestyle. FINA, the global governing body of swimming, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Chen’s teammate Wang Shun declined to comment after he won bronze in Thursday’s 200-meter individual medley.
“I feel robbed emotionally”, she said, adding that she may have suffered as her nation is seen as “too close” to Russian Federation.
Li Keke, a spokeswoman for China’s national anti-doping agency, said she had no additional information on the Chen case.
Media reports named the official as sprint coach John Anzrah, saying he had attempted to impersonate athlete Ferguson Rotich during a doping test and gave a urine sample on his behalf.
Adrian failed a test in Poland before the Games, Michal Rynkowski, director of Poland’s Commission Against Doping in Sport, told reporters in Warsaw.
Bulgarian Olympic Committee’s Secretary General Belcho Goranov said: “Unfortunately, we have a positive test”.

Most stood – and continue to stand – by Sun, but Friday’s revelation that an athlete representing China appears to have taken banned substances has caused some to pause for reflection.
