Chinese-owned brand Volvo is recalling 59000 cars

Swedish premium automobile manufacturer Volvo Car Group has said that it was recalling 59,000 cars after some owners experienced that the engines of their vehicles stopped and restarted while they were driving.

He said the cars had been chiefly sold in Britain, Sweden and Germany.

Volvo is now beginning to write to affected vehicle owners, who will be able to contact their local dealership for the fault to be fixed for free.

Mr Elfstrom said the glitch would be “barely noticeable” if motorists were travelling at speed, as both the engine and electric system would start up again immediately.

The call back is for models with five-cylinder diesel engines, Elfstrom told Automotive News Europe in an email.

The Gothenburg-based mostly firm was purchased by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. from Ford Motor Co.

The recalls come following an announcement by Volvo that it sold a record 503,127 cars in 2015 – the first time it has sold more than half a million cars in its 89-year history.
