Chinese Scientists Unveil New Stealth Material Breakthrough

The Chinese scientists say that it can be done by the tunable new material at Ultra-High Frequency (UHF).

The new aircraft developed by the Chinese researchers consists of a thin material just 5/16 of an inch, protecting stealth planes against UFH detection.

A group of scientists from China have claimed to have developed stealth material that could make future fighter jets very hard to detect by a few of today’s most cutting-edge anti-stealth radar.

Other materials that can absorb microwave radar signals in ultrahigh frequencies (UHF) are too thick to use in fighter jet construction.

A metal slab, which is on the top of the layer of the material, is made up of thin metal honeycomb.

According to Ars Technica, the AFSS prototype tested by the researchers was successful in its attempt to absorb radio frequencies between 0.7 and 1.9 GHz, resulting in a reflectivity reduction of 10 to 40dB.

The scientists placed a layer of waves-absorbing material under a. 04 mm thick layer of copper resistors.

“In this paper we present an ultra-thin broadband AFSS absorber with a stretching transformation pattern for use in UHF applications”.

“Our proposed absorber is nearly ten times thinner than conventional ones”, said Wenhua Xu, one of the team members from China’s Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Information about the prototype was published by the researchers in the Journal of Applied Physics. The new cloaking material is aptly absorbing microwaves, avoiding their reflection which may lead to the detection of the fighters, spying planes or drones.

However the new discovery could definitely help increase the capability that the Chinese military has, both in the air and at sea. It remains to be seen if any plans to start research in order to advance the new technology will be confirmed, as Chinese representatives have not declared any additional intentions regarding the new material yet. It can be argued that owing to varying degrees of stealth technology, the U.S. military could dominate in the last century and majority of technological gains were stopped.
