Chinese tycoon who bought Grindr paying $1B in divorce
Although the exes’ divorce is considered one of China’s biggest, according to the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs, it still doesn’t top the massive fortune Longfor Properties Co. chairwoman Wu Yajun had to pay to her ex-husband during their 2012 billion dollar divorce.

Zhou Yahui, a Chinese billionaire who purchased a controlling stake in gay dating app Grindr, is paying his wife Li Qiong $1.1 billion in one of China’s costliest divorce settlements ever. The shares add up to about $1.1 billion based on the stock’s 25.76 yuan ($3.90) closing price of shares Tuesday.
Zhou and his wife were named earlier this year as the richest young Chinese billionaires in a survey compiled by the magazine Hurun Report. Zhou Yahui is a graduate of the Tsinghua University in Beijing. The Chinese businessman is also in possession of a 34.5% stake in Kunluch Tech, an online gaming company. Kunlun closed Wednesday at 26.44 yuan, or about $3.96. Like all large tech conglomerates, Kunlun is acquisitive.
According to SCMP, while this may seem like a lot, it is not the highest divorce settlement on record in China. From 1.7% of the population in 2008 the rate climbed up to 2.8% in 2015. Another millionaire Yuan Jinhua, the vice president of heavy equipment maker Sany, had paid his wife Wang Haiyan $359 million after their divorce. The huge settlement has made headlines in China and all over the world.
