Chipotle CEO ‘deeply sorry’ about customers who fell sick
A spokesman for Denver-based Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. says the Boston College illnesses are likely isolated and not related to the E. coli cases that have turned up in the company’s restaurants in nine states. Illnesses contracted at Chipotles have since been reported in seven more states, including Illinois, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

The illnesses led to the temporary closure of the restaurant in the city’s Cleveland Circle neighborhood. In other words, these students did not contract E. coli.
Ells profusely apologized for the fast food flare-up on “Today“, despite acknowledging it’s not over, and that “more cases could come” in the near future. Most of its restaurants also feature outdoor patio space. “When there is repetition, that’s what really damages credibility”.
Up until earlier this year, Chipotle’s food was characterized as high-quality, healthy and generally worth the premium price. Chipotle has about 2,000 locations.
“When we reopen, the restaurant will be completely sanitized and every single employee will have been tested and assured that they do not have norovirus”, Ells said.
Chipotle, which has publicly reported strong revenue growth for nearly a decade, warned recently that it expects significant declines at its flagship stores as a result of the scare.
However, the more important question is, once CMG stock falls to $400, will it then be a good time to buy?
“I was surprised that there wasn’t a big line – there usually is a big line. They are so far above the industry norm that we will be safest place to eat”. “The other piece is the actions need to match it”, he said. “I have to say I’m sorry for the people that got sick”. The symptoms of the virus includes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and fever. Some strains can cause severe food poisoning, kidney failure and even death. They are highly contagious.
But as the company has grown, it’s faced limitations.
Boston College’s director of university health services also said Wednesday that the number of impacted students continues to climb after initial reports surfaced Monday.
“They’re trying to be local and serve food with integrity, but as you grow it becomes incredibly complex and hard and challenging”, said Darren Tristano, president of industry research firm Technomic. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
When asked whether Chipotle can recover financially from the toll the outbreaks have taken, Ells said “certainly” but that his focus now is on “the safety and quality of our ingredients”. And they said the restaurant failed to comply with policy when a sick employee worked a Thursday shift. The real problem is they’re playing defense.
“They may not – and I underscore the word “may” – not have as rigorous standards as necessary given their size”, Goldin said.

“We seem as a culture to like when people prepare food in front of us. But that’s just not the case”.
