Chipotle Food Infection impacts over 20 Boston College Students, including
A Boston Chipotle franchise has been closed by health officials because 80 students became ill with the norovirus after they all ate at the same restaurant.

The Boston incident is a “near-term negative reinforcement”, when viewed along with the E. coli incidents in Chipotle’s restaurants and other health-related issues the company has dealt with since the summer, Anderson said. BMO Capital Markets reaffirmed a “buy” rating on shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill in a research note on Tuesday.
Since the investigation regarding this outbreak is now underway, officials from the Massachusetts Public Health Department and the Boston Public Health Department did not speculate on the cause. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 22 people fell victims to the E.coli, the most common bacteria in food-borne outbreaks.
“The number of Boston College students who have reported to BC Health Services with GI symptoms has risen to 80 as of noon today”. All of these students indicated that they had eaten at the Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant in Cleveland Circle during the past weekend.
An inspector temporarily suspended Chipotle’s permit after finding three violations: cooked chicken and steak was below the proper holding temperature of 140 degrees and an employee working despite being sick.
Boston College head coach Jim Christian got several phone calls at 6:30 on Sunday morning from players who said they suffered the effects of food poisoning overnight and would be questionable for Sunday’s game against UMass-Lowell.
The students are being tested for E. coli and norovirus, which both can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea. The most recent of the illness reported by the CDC started on November 13.

In case the test results do reveal that there was no E. coli outbreak, it would be reassuring in some manner for Chipotle, which has been trying to reassure its consumers over the course of the past few weeks. Unfortunately, Chipotle’s future was stained with an event similar to McDonald’s food safety scandal in China past year. Chipotle now expects sales at established locations to fall as much as 11 percent in the fourth quarter. That would mark the first decline since the company went public in 2006. Wedbush increased their price target on shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill from $620.00 to $740.00 and gave the company a neutral rating in a report on Monday, August 24th.
