Chipotle Promises To Impose New Cooking Methods After Food Scandal
Fifty-three people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O26 have been reported from nine states.

Almost a quarter of Americans who have heard of recent E. coli outbreaks at Chipotle Mexican Grill said they are eating less often at its restaurants, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Tuesday, while social media sentiment towards the chain hit a low. In an apparently unrelated outbreak, dozens of Boston College students fell ill with norovirus after dining at a Chipotle location.
Raw chicken will be marinated in resealable plastic bags rather than in bowls and cilantro will be added to freshly cooked rice so the heat gets rid of microbes in the garnish. The majority of illnesses have been reported from Washington and OR during October 2015.
Officials at the Atlanta-based CDC have indicated that additional cases from similar time periods may still be reported as they make their way through various state health departments to the federal health officials. The agency said it was “investigating another, more recent outbreak of a different, rare DNA fingerprint Shiga toxin producing E. coli” linked to Chipotle.
When it rains it pours for the restaurant chain.
“Because it is not known if these infections are related to the larger, previously reported outbreak, these illnesses are not being included in the case count for that outbreak”, the CDC said.
Chipotle is changing its cooking methods in an effort to address food safety concerns sparked by an E. coli outbreak at several of its restaurants. The cause of the E. coli contagion still hasn’t been found.

“While it is never possible to completely eliminate all risk, this program eliminates or mitigates risk to a level near zero, and will establish Chipotle as the industry leader in this area”, said Mansour Samadpour, CEO of IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group, in a statement.
