Kansas Department of Health and Environment spokeswoman Sara Belfry said Monday the Kansas resident ate at a Chipotle location in Shawnee, 11805 Shawnee Mission Parkway, the week of November 23.
After Chipotle was linked to the E. coli contagion in October, it temporarily shut down locations in Washington state and Oregon. The analyst, who views the CDC’s “strong allusion” that these new cases are “probably unrelated” to the prior outbreak as “very surprising and disappointing”, now believes the consensus forecasts for Chipotle’s earnings in fiscal 2016 and 2017 are “far too high” given that the news flow shows the impact of the company’s health issues continuing.
Five of the 19 sickened people were hospitalized and two developed a type of kidney failure associated with the E. coli strain, STEC O157:H7, the CDC said.
When looking at the daily charts for Chipotle Mexican Grill, the stock has been in a strong downtrend over the last couple of weeks.
Chipotle officials have taken action to enhance the company’s food safety program and hired Seattle-based IEH Laboratories to help improve the company’s safety practices, according to a Chipotle press release. Spokesman Chris Arnold said in an email Monday that the chain is in the process of implementing its new programs, which include increased testing of ingredients and training for workers. Those points of differentiation have always been marketing strengths for Chipotle, which has sought to distinguish itself as being of higher quality than traditional fast-food chains. In its latest update, the CDC reports there has been one more case in Pennsylvania of someone getting sick from E. coli.
The most recent person confirmed to be part of the outbreak became ill on November 3, according to a December 22 update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Although the E. coli outbreak related to Costco was initially traced back to a celery and onion mix made by Taylor Farms Pacific Inc which was used in making chicken salad.

Shares of Chipotle were trading below $500 on Tuesday for the first time since early 2014. The agency warns it could take some time before singling what food contains the toxic E.coli strain.
