Chloe Moretz joins the YA craze in The 5th Wave trailer
This time around, its Rick Yancey’s best-selling “The 5th Wave” that’s getting the big-screen treatment, with Mortez playing Cassie, a 16-year-old on a mission to save her little brother in the throes of an alien attack on Earth.

You’re going to earn your money in trying to make it through the new global trailer for THE 5TH WAVE, Sony’s latest attempt to capitalize on the YA craze that’s produced such hits as THE HUNGER GAMES and DIVERGENT and such misses as handsome CREATURES and THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS. In the trailer, dubbed an “international sneak peek”, Cassie recounts the first four waves that have decimated humanity.
‘Then they took our cities, laying everything to waste. And finally, the invasion begins. Exterminating anyone who had survived’.
Here’s hoping that the next 5th Wave trailer is better than this one, because from here it just looks like a mishmash of YA tropes.
Ron Livingston and Maggie Siff play Cassie’s parents, Alex Roe and Nick Robinson are her handsome love interests, and Liev Schreiber, Maika Monroe, and Maria Bello also star. In addition, The 5th Wave film looks like it will offer a global perspective unavailable in the book, as landmarks are (rather gloriously) destroyed in the invasion’s concussive waves.
Will the stream of young adult dystopian adaptations ever cease? Hopefully, the thoughtful intensity of The 5th Wave will help this movie distinguish itself – and perhaps restore a certain credibility to the beloved genre.

The January 15 release isn’t promising many favors either.
