The 33-year-old shuttler was in irrepressible form as he snuffed out the challenge of Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long to storm into the Hong Kong Open final.

Two-time world champion Carolina Marin of Spain beat Chinese former world number one Wang Yihan on Saturday for a place in the finals at the Hong Kong Open.

The women’s doubles and mixed doubles feature an all-Chinese after with top seeds Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei taking the mixed doubles title after beating Liu Cheng-Bao Yixin 21-17, 17-21, 21-17 while Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei took the women’s doubles crown with relative ease after disposing Tang Yuanting-Yu Yang 21-16, 21-12.

“I could not win but I have confidence because I still managed to catch up (in the third set) with Marin, who is the world number one”, said Okuhara.

The Malaysian, former world No 1, will play China’s Tian Houwei tomorrow.

The twenty-one-year-old Hong Konger beat Lee’s long-time nemesis Lin, making him an overnight hometown hero.

Ng put up a strong resistance in the first game and kept pace with his illustrated opponent Lee throughout the first game, which he eventually conceded 21-19.

“A lot of things I (have) changed in my game, in my mind and, of course, how I see the tournament – that I want to win the title”, Marin said after she booked a place in her eighth final of the season.

Coming back to arena in May this year after an 8-month ban, Lee won the back-to-back title in China Open last week and his world ranking surged violently from No. 180 to No. 6 in six months. “I think I lost a few concentration and focus”, he added.
