Choose your side with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Google apps

Disney has partnered with Google, allowing mobile users to integrate a “Star Wars” theme into Google’s apps, the two announced Monday. Picking either side will essentially give your entire Google account and corresponding apps a makeover in accordance to whichever side you choose, so like Google states in the promo video above, choose carefully!

It seems light years since JJ Abrams’s announcement last month that the third full trailer would be the last we’d see of Star Wars: The Force Awakens until its official release on December 17. Once you choose a side, Google will get busy transforming your online experience in a number of fun and creative ways. Even fan-favorite, the lovable yet scruffy-lookin’ rogue known as YouTube gets a lightsaber-colored playback bar depending on which side you pick.

Google Calendar will populate with key dates from the movie franchise, loading bars will take the shape of light sabers and Gmail backgrounds will feature picturesque galactic settings from the Star Wars universe, among many other changes and additions.

Google Chrome – Through the installation of an extension, you will see images from Star Wars: The Force Within every time you open a new tab.

If you haven’t noticed any changes yet, I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to come out December 18 in the U.S., and the world premiere is scheduled for December 14. The latest brings us new footage of BB-8, a few new X-wing pilots, and Rey (Daisy Ridley) seemingly behind the wheel of Han Solo’s (Harrison Ford) baby, the Millennium Falcon.

While it seems that the new Star Wars movie is everywhere, from grocery stores to televisions, it was third on the list in a new Bloomberg Politics poll. We thought the search giant was immune, but from what is going on right now, it is clear that Google is infected.
