A pony dressed up like a unicorn for a child’s birthday party broke loose and had to be located by CHP in Madera, Calif. Feb. 25, 2016.

But no one was going to control the pony; it escaped from a child again about three hours later.

“The calls were coming in as a unicorn running around out there on the roadway”, Officer Josh McConnell with California Highway Patrol said. The pony ran into traffic on Avenue 12 from about Road 33 all the way to road 35, where it was found in an orchard by the CHP helicopter.

Residents who saw the unicorn cross their paths were hesitant to tell police that they had seen a creature more appropriate for King Arthur’s court than central California. The pony was just lucky.

The unruly 500 to 600 pound pony would have also likely been injured or killed, he said. No citations were issued in this case, but had the pony been hit by a vehicle – it would have been a different story.

A resident with a horse helped police lure Juliet into a trailer.

With nobody hurt, it’s a fairy tale ending for the pony.

“I’m a photographer here in the Fresno area and a lot of little girls have had their dreams come true taking pictures with Juliet the unicorn”, Boos said.
