Chris Archer throws one-hit shutout against the Astros

Conger became the third player in Astros history to strike out five times in a game.

The Rays weren’t exactly lighting up McHugh but they did make the veteran starter work for it. McHugh fielded his position with a nifty backhanded grab and navigated out of a few jams. Tampa Bay is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings with Houston.

The Rays are coming into this game after allowing two walks during their last outing.

When they are outhit, the Rays are 11-38.

Karns, 27 and in his third year, never faced the Astros before, but was drafted by them as a 10th rounder in 2006 out of high school in Arlington.

Tomlin (1-1) only allowed Alex Rodriguez’s 680th career home run leading off the fourth and a double to Chase Headley in seven deliberate innings. Tampa Bay ranks 17th with 111 home runs.
